Can I change my billing currency?
Your currency is set automatically based on the site where you created your Malt account. This currency setting cannot be changed.
How does it work with my projects?
The client defines the billing currency. When you work with a client, you need to provide a quote in their currency. The invoice and payment will also be in that same currency.
For each project, you can view the different currencies available for your work.
What is my client's currency and the impact on my project?
When you get a project opportunity, you can view the client’s currency.
Case 1: If your client uses the same currency as you, the invoicing process stays the same as on the platform.
Case 2: If your client pays in a different currency, you must prepare your quote in their currency.
To help you, we estimate the amount you’ll receive in your currency based on the official exchange rate.
Malt does not perform the conversion; the client pays the amount agreed upon in the quote.
When creating your quote, you can see the approximate amount you’re charging in the client’s currency based on your average daily rate.
Send a quote according to the client’s currency
You must write the quote in the client’s currency.
The amount you receive may vary due to exchange rate changes, which Malt does not control.
How does this affect my invoicing?
Your invoice will show the amounts in your client’s currency.
To record the invoice in your accounts, you’ll need to convert the amount to euros using a conversion rate. We recommend contacting your bank for the best rate.
Can my client change the payment currency during a project?
If you have an ongoing project and your client wishes to change the payment currency, this will not be possible.
Once a quote has been accepted in a given currency, all payments related to that project will be made in the same currency until it is closed.
To be paid in another currency, a new quote will need to be issued and accepted.
Payment and bank fees
If your client pays you in a currency different from yours, your bank will handle the currency conversion.
Your bank will charge a fee called a foreign exchange commission for this service. These fees and the exchange rate vary depending on the bank.
We recommend contacting your bank to learn more about the fees and rates they apply.
The payment terms remain the same as agreed.
How does working with clients who use different currencies show on my dashboard?
Your total earnings and current projects will be displayed in your account’s currency.
For example, if your company is based in France, your turnover will be shown in euros.
Note that amounts may vary due to exchange rates set within our platform.
