The business referral program lets freelancers earn passive income by referring client project opportunities to Malt.
- Refer a client project you cannot take on and receive 5% of the invoiced amount (excl. VAT).
- The project must be new on Malt with a minimum budget of £3,000.
- Rewards are paid for 12 months from acceptance of the first quote.
How does it work?
- As a freelancer, one of your clients contacts you about a project.
- You cannot take it on (unavailable, skills do not match, etc.).
- You share the opportunity with Malt.
- Malt finds a freelancer to deliver the project.
- You receive 5% of the invoiced amount from the freelancer working with that client (within 12 months of the first quote being accepted).

What about opportunities shared by consulting firms?
We have a dedicated team to manage these opportunities. Please reach out and we will help.
How can I share an opportunity?
- From your dashboard
- In the side menu
You can track every opportunity you submit in your Malt space. Go to the Dashboard section to follow payments. We will also keep you informed by email.
How do I track my opportunities?
You can track every eligible opportunity from your Malt space. Go to the Dashboard section to follow payments. You can track an opportunity as soon as Malt validates project eligibility. We will also keep you proactively informed.
- Task-based project: payment is made once the client pays for the project.
- Time-based project: payment is made after each monthly payment by the client.
There is no maximum bonus amount, but it applies for 12 months. If the client and freelancer extend the assignment or start a new project together within 12 months of the first quote being validated, you continue to receive your reward.
You can refer projects in another currency — the currency considered is the client's. The reward is paid in the client's currency. Bank conversion fees may apply when paying in foreign currencies.
