This article explains how to change your legal entity on Malt and what consequences this has for your missions and tax reporting.
- You can change legal status, country, or VAT regime from your Settings.
- Steps differ depending on mission type (fixed-price or time-based).
- The change affects your DAC7 reporting in Europe.
Can I change my legal entity on Malt?
Yes, absolutely.
You can update your legal status, country of registration, or VAT status (for example, moving from a 0% to a 20% rate) directly from your Settings, "Company" tab, and edit your billing information.
Make sure the information entered matches exactly what appears on your official documents (up-to-date proof of registration, certificate of incorporation, intra-community VAT number, and IBAN).
What happens if I have an ongoing mission?
It depends on the type of mission.
Fixed-price (task-based) mission
If the mission is still in progress:
- Make the changes in your account from your Settings.
- Go to the mission page, click "Edit", then update the information linked to your new structure before finalizing or invoicing.

If the mission is complete: you will no longer be able to edit the invoice yourself on the platform. In this case, contact support at support@malt.com to adjust the invoice according to your new structure's information.
Time-based (monthly or recurring) mission
When you change your legal entity from your legal information edit link, we will apply the change from the following month.
If you want to change legal entity during an ongoing project, we recommend:
- Waiting for month A to be paid to your current structure (A)'s IBAN before switching to the new structure (B).
- Then invoicing the following month (month B) with your new entity.
NB: It is technically not possible to register two IBANs or validate two different legal entities at the same time on your Malt profile. You can only have one active, validated structure at a time.
If the mission is already complete and billing adjustments are needed, also contact support@malt.com.
What if a payment was sent to the wrong structure?
If a transfer was made to an entity that no longer matches your current legal form, email us at support@malt.com so we can help you regularize the situation.
Good to know — DAC7
Changing legal entity affects your invoices, social contributions, and tax treatment. It is therefore essential to keep your information up to date.
The DAC7 directive does not prevent you from changing your legal entity on Malt, but it affects how those changes will be reported for tax purposes.
Quick reminder of what DAC7 is (European countries only)
DAC7 requires platforms like Malt to collect and transmit information each year to European tax authorities about income generated through the platform. Malt reports quarterly the amounts paid to you (including VAT, net of Malt fees) as well as identification data for the structure receiving payments.

Impact when changing legal entity
- Income earned under your first structure (A) will be reported under that structure (with its registration number, VAT, country, IBAN, etc.).
- Income earned after the change, under your new structure (B), will be reported under that new structure.
- If you change country of residence or registration, the recipient country for DAC7 information may change, as reporting is sent to the seller's member state of residence.
For example, a project invoiced and paid in January under your sole proprietorship A will be attached to A in that year's DAC7 report, and a project invoiced and paid in March under your company B will be attached to B.
