Your description and profile picture
• Your profile description must contain at least 200 characters.
• To update your photo, go to your account, click on “My Profile,” then select “Edit my photo.”
• Upload a clear photo where your face is straight and not tilted.
• Our facial recognition system ensures that only appropriate professional photos are accepted.
Import your data from LinkedIn or your Resume
You can enrich your Malt profile using your LinkedIn profile or CV.
• Click “Add an experience”
• Select “Import work experience from LinkedIn or CV”
• Upload your file — and we’ll do the rest!
From LinkedIn:
1. Log in to your LinkedIn account and open your profile.
2. Click “More” > “Save as PDF.”
3. Upload the saved file to Malt.
Experience
To add the company you worked for, simply select its name from the list of options, and your experience will automatically be linked to that entity. If you wish to change the order of your experiences, you can easily drag and drop them using the three bars located on the right-hand side.
When selecting a company, make sure you choose one that includes a logo. Company logos are an important visual element on your profile, as clients often look for recognizable brands when screening freelancer profiles.
- Each description must contain at least 100 characters, but we recommend aiming for around 300 characters to provide a clearer showcase of your work and impact.
- Adding at least one relevant skill per experience is also essential, as it connects your expertise to the projects you’ve completed and helps improve your visibility in search results.
All experiences can be edited directly from the list on the right. Keep in mind that when you click “Save,” the changes are applied to all experiences at once. If any mandatory information is incomplete, a label will appear indicating which experience needs attention and what must be corrected before you can return to your profile.
Some experiences may include an “On Malt” badge, which indicates that the project was completed through Malt. You can add this badge by creating an experience from your project page using the card “Display your project in your profile,” or after leaving a review for your client. Once the experience form is completed, the badge will appear automatically.
If you already added the same experience manually before, you can simply delete the duplicate experience from your profile.
Benefits of linking your business to your experience
- Being on your client's list of favorites: Your profile will be privileged by appearing on the "Favorites list" of company employees and will allow them to contact you again for new projects within the group.
- Increase your search engine visibility to potential customers by partnering with company employees.
- Optimize your profile for your future clients by associating it with the group of freelance talents who have already worked with this company. You may receive new project opportunities in your inbox when your profile is selected by our matching algorithm against the company you entered.
If you are part of the Malt Strategy category, your profile will never be visible in the search engine, but keeping an updated profile will allow our recruiting team to identify if your profile is best suited to a project.
Portfolio
What is the new Portfolio?
The new Portfolio helps you showcase your expertise through detailed project stories, not just images.
You can create up to 20 portfolio items, combining text, images, videos, links, skills, industries and project dates to explain what you delivered, how you worked, and the value you created.
Think of it as your professional showcase, a place to convince clients before they even contact you.
How should I build my Portfolio?
Each Portfolio item should highlight one project, deliverable or achievement.
Give it a clear title, explain the context and your role, illustrate it with visuals where possible, and add the relevant skills, industry and dates.
Your Portfolio complements your Experiences, it doesn't replace them.
Experiences explain where you worked, while your Portfolio shows what you accomplished.

Will my Portfolio improve my visibility on Malt?
A strong Portfolio helps clients better understand your expertise and makes your profile more compelling once they visit it.
Portfolio information is expected to become more and more, an additional signal used by Malt's matching systems over time.
Creating high-quality Portfolio content today helps prepare your profile for future improvements while already increasing your chances of convincing clients.
What happens to my existing Portfolio?
Nothing is lost. Your existing Portfolio items are automatically migrated to the new Portfolio experience.
You can edit and enrich them by adding descriptions, skills, categories, dates and a custom thumbnail before publishing them again.
We recommend reviewing each item to make the most of the new features and better showcase your work.
Can I add videos to my Portfolio?
Yes.
You can enrich your Portfolio with videos by adding a YouTube or Vimeo link.
Videos are a great way to introduce yourself, present a case study, demonstrate a product, or showcase your work.
Important: your video must be public to appear in your Portfolio.
Private or unlisted videos cannot be displayed.
For YouTube videos:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Go to Content.
- Hover over the video you want to edit.
- Under Visibility, select Public.
- Save your changes.
Why isn't my Vimeo video displaying correctly?
If your Vimeo video's thumbnail or title isn't displayed correctly in your Portfolio, it may be due to a temporary Vimeo API issue.
To refresh it:
- Open your Portfolio in Edit mode.
- Click the Edit (✏️) icon on the video block.
- Click inside the video URL field.
- Press Esc while the URL field is selected. This refreshes the video's metadata (thumbnail and title).
- Click Save.
If the issue persists, try saving the Portfolio item again or contact Malt Support.
Share & edit your profile URL
You can change the URL of your freelance profile by following these steps:
1. Go to “Edit my profile.”
2. Click “Share your profile.”
3. Select the URL.
4. Choose your new link.
5. Copy it to share.
Location and workplace preference
Specify if you work remotely or can travel to client offices, and whether you’re available full day or half day. This helps companies know which projects to contact you for.
If your profile is visible in the search engine, you can add up to five cities where you can regularly work, all in or near your main location. You may also set a travel radius of 10–50 km.
If you only work remotely, don’t enter any activity areas.
Profiles in the Malt Strategy category are never visible in the search engine.
How to complete your expertise ?
This section allows you to showcase your expertise to potential clients. It consists of:
- Skills: These include functional skills, technical skills (such as tools, technologies, and methodologies), and types of deliverables. You can add up to 50 skills to your profile. This limit ensures your profile remains precise and easy for clients to read. Avoid redundancy to showcase your expertise clearly.
- Industry expertise: These are the sectors where you have built knowledge through your experience or education. While not used for matching or search, they help clients understand the context in which you usually operate.
-
Top skills: These are featured at the top of your profile and represent your core areas of expertise. Use them to highlight your main strengths to clients at a glance.
Where is the Expertise section on my profile?
- Your Top skills and Industry expertise are displayed at the top of your profile to immediately show clients your main areas of strength.
The complete list of skills is now shown at the end of your profile, so clients can first see your work experiences and then dive deeper into your skillset.
Within each experience, you can now link up to 5 relevant skills, providing important context and showing how your skills were applied in real projects. Suggestions will be offered based on the skills already in your main list.
How can I manage my skills & certifications?
You can add or remove skills at any time to keep your profile fresh and relevant. If you’ve reached the 50-skill limit, simply delete older or less relevant ones to make space for new ones.
Certifications
You can link Certifications to your skills by completing the Certifications section. This helps validate your expertise and build client trust.
To receive project opportunities: you must add at least 5 areas of expertise to be visible in the Malt search engine.
Your daily rate
The minimum daily rate for your profile to appear on Malt is €100. This rate is indicative: it helps position your profile for the right type of projects and gives clients an idea of the budget required. Final pricing can vary depending on the project, scope, and workload.
When setting your daily rate, consider your expertise, experience, and availability. You can also add details in your profile description. Use the simulator to test different rates and see what you will actually earn.
To change your daily rate, go to your profile and click on your current rate to update it. Select a new daily rate, and a tooltip will show you the amount you would receive after fees.
How to choose the right category?
When creating your Malt profile, you must select at least one category and one job within it. If you also work in a completely different profession, you’ll need to create a second account with a different email address.
If you choose multiple categories or jobs, you must demonstrate solid experience in each to ensure your profile is credible on Malt.
Create multiple profiles in Malt?
You can create several profiles on Malt, but each must use a different email address. We generally advise against this unless you have two very different activities (e.g., developer and graphic designer).
Keep in mind that referrals and earnings will be split between your profiles, and notes or projects cannot be merged. If you do create separate accounts, upload the documents relevant to each activity.
