Tips for creating your profile

Here we give you all the advice so that you can easily complete and/or modify your profile.

Create your freelance profile here https://www.malt.uk/signup

Your description

The description must be at least 200 characters.

The layout of your description in Malt is not exactly the same as on other platforms.

To be able to put the text in bold , you have 2 possibilities:

  • you can insert text between two asterisks: ** BOLD **

  • or insert it between 2 underscores: __ BOLD __

To add text in italics , you must put a special character on each side of the text:

  • you can do it * Like this *

  • or _ then_

Once the relationship between the freelance expert and the client is established, our platform allows direct contact through our messaging tool so it is not possible to share contact details in your profile description. This avoids SPAM and makes it possible to keep the first exchanges on the platform in the event of a possible dispute.

However, once contact has been established with the customer via the platform, you can communicate your contact details (Skype, telephone number, email, etc.) to facilitate your exchanges.

We even encourage you to meet the client!

Your profile picture

Access your account, click on "My profile" then on "Edit my photo".

You can then upload your photo. Make sure it is straight and not tilted.

Import your Linkedin data

You can complete the information associated with your Malt profile using your LinkedIn data. 🎉

To do this, click on “Add an experience” and select the option “Import your LinkedIn data”:

  • Log in to your LinkedIn profile and click on your photo to open your profile view.

  • Click "More" and "Save as PDF".

  • Finally, upload your file and we'll take care of the rest.

Experience

To indicate the name of the company for which you worked, you must preselect the name of the company in the list of options, your experience will be attached to the entity in question.

To move the display order of your experiences on your profile, simply click on the three strips to the right of these elements.

Benefits of linking your business to your experience

  • Being on your client's list of favorites: Your profile will be privileged by appearing on the "Favorites list" of company employees and will allow them to contact you again for new projects within the group.

  • Increase your search engine visibility* to potential customers by partnering with company employees.

  • Optimize your profile for your future clients by associating it with the group of freelance talents who have already worked with this company. You may receive new project opportunities in your inbox when your profile is selected by our matching algorithm against the company you entered.

Portfolio

You can integrate a video into your profile by adding it to your portfolio.

You can include a link in your Youtube or Vimeo profile here: https://www.malt.fr/portfolio

How can I change the privacy settings for my videos?

  • Log in to YouTube Studio .

  • From the left menu, select Videos .

  • Hover your mouse over the video you want to update. Select the Live section to access your live broadcasts.

  • Click the down arrow under "Visibility" and select Public .

  • Click Save .

Are your videos not displaying well?

If you notice that your portfolio preview is not displaying correctly, it may be because the vimeo API is not available and is returning a default image.

If this happens, follow these steps:

  • Access the portfolio in edit mode

  • Click the pencil to edit a video with broken thumbnails

  • Click on the video URL

  • Press "ESC" (in the URL field), the system will reload thumbnails and title

  • Click "Save".

Project preferences

To help us connect you with projects that align with your preferences, please indicate any criteria you would prefer to avoid in the "Project preferences" section:

  • Project Duration: Specify the project duration(s) you'd prefer to avoid.

  • Sector of activity: Specify the business sector(s) you don't want to work in.

  • Company Size: Specify the company size(s) that do not suit you.
Company size doesn't always accurately reflect the context in which you'll be working. Large companies, for example, may have highly agile teams.

  1. Go to "Edit my profile"

  2. Scroll down to the "Share your profile" section

Location and workplace preference

At the customer or remotely? All day or only half day?

This variable is very important for companies, because it allows them to understand which projects they should contact you for. In addition, when your profile is recommended by the Malt team, it helps us to understand your availability and mobility possibilities.

You can therefore indicate that you can work remotely or that you can travel to the client's offices.

For those profiles that are visible in the search engine*, it is possible to add up to 5 cities within their location; this will optimize their appearance in the results. Choose only cities that you can actually visit on a regular basis.

The cities you can enter must be in the same country or near your primary location. You can also set a radius around a city between 10 and 50 km.

How to complete your expertise ?

This section allows you to showcase your expertise to potential clients. It consists of:

  • Skills: These are functional skills, technical skills (tools, technologies, and methodologies) as well as deliverables.

  • Industry Expertise: This refers to the industry sectors in which you have developed expertise through your previous professional experience and/or studies.

To receive project opportunities: you must add at least 4 areas of expertise to be visible in the Malt search engine and 7 areas of expertise for Malt Plus, our matching solution.

You can link your certifications to your skills. By completing the "Certifications" section, your skills will be linked to the certifications you entered.

Your skills can also be recommended. Your clients/collaborators can access your profile and recommend your skills by clicking on the small "+" symbol that appears next to each skill.

Skills ratings no longer exist. They were removed due to the lack of transparency for clients. Instead, you can highlight your expertise with the "Top Skills" feature.

Your daily rate

The minimum fee for your profile to be visible on Malt is €100.

The first thing you should know is that this daily rate is indicative, it is a natural filter to enhance your work and position yourself for the type of project you are looking for.

The second thing is that it gives the client an idea of the budget they need to work with you, but this can be adjusted at budget time because depending on the project, its size and the workload, the price may vary.

Moreover, nothing also prevents you from adding more details in the description of your profile.

When establishing this rate, you will need to consider factors such as area of specialization, years of experience, and of course availability.

Change your daily rate

To change your daily rate, go to your profile and click on your indicative rate. Then choose a new daily rate.

A tooltip will appear telling you what you would receive if you quoted this rate.

How to choose the right category?

When creating your freelance profile in Malt, you must reference yourself in at least 1 category and 1 job in that category. However, if you exercise another category of profession completely different from the first, you will have to create a second account with another email address.

Create multiple profiles in Malt?

You can create several profiles in Malt. Each account must be associated with a different e-mail address.

At Malt, we advise against creating two different profiles on the marketplace unless you have two very different activities, for example if you are a developer and a graphic designer.

Your referrals and accumulated earnings will then be divided between several profiles.

If you have two very different independent activities, we advise you to create two separate accounts, taking care to upload the documents related to your activity(ies).

We will not be able to merge your notes and projects between your two profiles.
