Why isn't an external recommendation appearing on my freelancer profile?

The reason why recommendations that you have requested from external contacts—and not from clients who you've recently completed projects with on Malt—don't appear on your profile is most likely because the person completing the recommendation on your behalf didn't go through the entire process correctly.

No worries, we've seen this happen before. To ensure an external recommendation is visible on your freelancer profile, you'll need to have your contact restart the process from scratch.

Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Sign in to your Malt account.

  2. Once signed in, hover your mouse over your name and thumbnail image in the upper-right corner of your screen. A drop-down menu will appear.

  3. Click on "Ask for a recommendation."

  4. Add the email address(es) of all the people who you're requesting a recommendation from. Feel free to customize the message being sent to your contacts or simply use the copy we've provided.

  5. Your contacts will receive an email notification. Once they click on that email, they can begin the recommendation process. They do not already need to have a Malt account to do this. If they don't take immediate action, they'll receive two reminders: 4 days later and 15 days later.

  6. As the final step in the process, we'll ask your contacts to provide additional information to confirm the validity of their recommendation before we make it visible on your profile.
